My family in Alaska is large, and when we get the relatives from the lower states to join us, we can certainly fill a room! This is my mother and father, my older sister Lynn and her family, my younger sister Shannyn and her family, my brother Curt minus his wife, my cousin Mary and her family, my Aunt Georgia and Aunt Jill, then there is us and our kids. These are the people that make the cold winter months enjoyable in Alaska. Summer is great too! July 2009

Still no answers....

We have been searching for help since December 2010 for Joey. We got a lead in May 2011 on where to go. In July 2011 it was approved through Tricare and he saw a counselor and a group of people that classified him as slightly autistic, Asperger's Syndrome with ODD. This counselor is did all she could, even helping him get resources he needs in a different school tailored to meeting his needs. Since she is not knowledgeable when it comes to Aspergers she referred him to another clinic in a city two hours away. So in December of 2011, one year later, we get approved to take him to the new clinic. We start the very long process. The clinic says they are sending me a survey to fill out about Joey. January they say they need more info only after I call and ask about the paperwork that never arrived. They get their info. A month and a half later there is STILL no paperwork from them. I understand that there are no qualified people around this small town to help my son, and I am dealing with that. I understand that Tricare only takes certain cases and places. But why do parents have to go from being intuitive and proactive about their kids to BIG MEAN GRIZZLIES to get help for them!? I told his school counselor today that if I was in Alaska he would have the help he needed within weeks, and five different people that were qualified to handle his case. Thank goodness the base here has a wonderful school system that took the info we had on him and ran with it. If it wasn't for them looking at JOEY and learning about JOEY then he would not have the opportunity to learn like other kids. He will NOT fall into the cracks, not MY kid. They are messing with the WRONG mother bear!!!!
